About the GRIB files
These files are in the WMO standard GRIB format. They are UW-NMS model
output interpolated onto the AWIPS 211(80 km) & 215(20 km) grids, defined
in NMC Office Note 388, available as a postscript document via anonymouc
ftp from NMC at nic.fb4.noaa.gov in the pub/nws/nmc/docs/gribed1 directory.
The UW-NMS model domain does not completely fill the 211 grid,
so the areas where no data is available are filled in with average values
or Zero values where appropriate.
At present, they contain the following variables, with more to follow
soon:
-
Sea Level Pressure (Pa)
-
2 meter Temperature (K)
-
Total Accumulated Precipitation (mm) over the last 6/12 hour period (liquid
+ ice)
At manditory pressure levels (1000,925,850,700,500,400,300,250,200,150,100
hPa)
-
Geopotential Height (m)
-
Temperature (K)
-
Water Vapor Mixing Ratio (g/g)
-
Grid Relative U-component (m/s)
-
Grid Relative V-component (m/s)
-
Vertical Motion (dz/dt) (m/s)
